crashes when keyboard shortcut to lock screen is pressed

Running amd64 version of dapper with a $HOME from an i386 breezy and when I press the keyboard key mapped to the Lock Screen function, gnome-screensaver dies with this error:

15310: arguments to dbus_message_get_args() were incorrect, assertion "(error) == NULL || !dbus_error_is_set ((error))" failed in file dbus-message.c line 1373.
This is normally a bug in some application using the D-BUS library.

I should add that locking the screen via the system menu works fine
