Comment 3 for bug 314545

One some occasions, I will switch to a console (Alt-F1) to attempt to get something done while waiting for the screensaver to give me the login dialog again. However, when I attempt to switch back (Alt-F7) It only gives me a blank screen. So, it's possible that it is crashing some of the time. In those cases I do 'init 3', force kill gdm & X, and then 'init 5'. If I don't switch to the console it eventually comes back up though.

Really, this is the only issue I have with Ubuntu 8.04. It was minor enough I waited 8 months to report it, mostly hoping that someone else would and it would get fixed. But It's annoying enough that I finally got motivated.

I have low expectations of it getting fixed though. It's too hard to reproduce, which means it's going to be very difficult to narrow down what is the root cause. I'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised.
