Bug Description

gnome-screensaver not running

workarounds:

1)strg-alt-l (do a first lock...) // there is no menuitem for screen-lock!

or

2) query state

goetz@saucy:~$ pgrep -lf gnome-screen
goetz@saucy:~$ gnome-screensaver-command -q
** Message: Screensaver is not running!
goetz@saucy:~$ gnome-screensaver-command -t
The screensaver is not currently active.
goetz@saucy:~$ pgrep -lf gnome-scree
3268 /usr/bin/gnome-screensaver --no-daemon
goetz@saucy:~/repos/darktable$ gnome-screensaver-command -q
The screensaver is inactive

i did update from 13.04
reinstalled gnome+co
dconf reset -f /
gconftool --recursive-unset /

the "we also need"-parts:
 lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 13.10

apt-cache policy gnome-screensaver
gnome-screensaver:

what happened: not running

Another issue that is probably in correlation with this:
When I close the lid on my laptop while it is plugged in, the screen stays active instead of turning off the screen and the keyboard backlight.
