Bug Description

As per the summary. Printing from kde apps, open office, works fine with this printer. When I try to print from gnome apps, the document simply doesn't even turn up in the print queue, so it's difficult to debug (i'm given no errors or anything). I'm not sure what information is required to debug this. Let me know and i'll update the bug report asap.

Version numbers:
Ubuntu Hardy 8.04 64-bit
~$ uname -a
Linux lewis 2.6.24-19-generic #1 SMP Wed Aug 20 17:53:40 UTC 2008 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Strangely, i'm able to print a test page from System->Administration->Printing. It seems to be just when printing from gnome apps that there's a problem.

I've just had this manifest today on Intrepid 64-bit after the update to the 1.6.27-11 kernel (and others). GNOME apps cannot print to my networked HP 2605DN Color Laser Printer.

Firefox prints fine
The Printer test page from system > administration > Printing > right click on printer prints fine
The printer test page from the CUPS server prints fine
Evolution prints

Gedit does not print
GnuCash does not print
The printer test page from HPLIP does not print
OpenOffice.Org Word processor does not print

I can access the printer's built-in web interface and can execute the printer's internal test page in that manner.

No error messages are displayed. Commanding the print works fine, HPLIP indicates a new job has been sent to the printer. The status light on the printer's front panel blinks once or twice, then returns to steady green (ready). HPLIP indicates the print job completed successfully, but not output is produced nor does the printer look like it's trying to print anything.

The CUPS log(s) do not show any obvious (to me) errors.

An HP Photosmart 1215 attached to a USB port works correctly, so I'm not in extremis here, but I am about of ink.

This morning received update to CUPS (1.3.9-2ubuntu6) which, after restarting CUPS, cures the problem I experienced. Thx for the quick turn.
