cannot resume from hibernation when on AC power but low on battery

Bug Description
If my laptop hibernates because the battery is about to run out of power and I plug in the adapter, Ubuntu will refuse to resume correctly from hibernation.
What happens is this
1. get a warning for low battery
2. ignore the warning :)
3. laptop hibernates
4. plug in the adapter, laptop is now charging
5. power on the laptop
6. laptop start resuming from hibernation
What happen now is the bug I am reporting
7. after few seconds the computer goes back into hibernation
If I let the battery charge for a while (let's say 10 minutes), the computer resumes from hibernation without any problem.
I think the problem is that the battery still reports a low power level because is has been charged for only few seconds. This makes the application that overviews the battery level (gnome-
