Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

1.) The main issue is that gnome power manager still cannot adjust brightness of LCD screen on Asus U80A laptop. Whether using function keys or gnome power manager, it shows adjustments but brightness level doesn't change.

2.) The funky issue is that when I use the actual gnome power manager brightness applet if I click on it to adjust the slider for brightness it
a.) immediately disappears
b.) if I click on it again the physical slider can appear randomly across the screen
c.) doesn't actually "SHOW" any physical adjustment

3.) What should happen is pretty simple. Brightness should adjust and the applet shouldn't have the slider appear randomly across the screen instead of attached to the applet

After a time the slider becomes "locked" to the applet but I can duplicate the random appearance of the slider across the screen if I remove and then readd the widget

Same problem here except I have not seen the random-placement issues. Brightness applet simply disappears when I try to click it, and function keys have no effect. I'm stuck at 50% brightness (according to brightness-applet). Can anyone offer an alternative way of setting the brightness as a workaround?

Thanks for the report, it has been some time without any response or feedback in this bug report and we are wondering if this is still an issue for you with the latest release of Ubuntu the Natty Narwhal, May you please test with that version and comment back if you're still having or not the issue? Please have a look at http://www.ubuntu.com/download to know how to install that version. Thanks in advance and sorry for the late response.
