Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

It is not possible for me to adjust the brightness on my Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Si 3655 laptop via the brightness-applet and the mouse. When I click on the applet's icon, the slider shows up properly. But once I click the slider or one of the two buttons (+ and -) the slider becomes hidden. After clicking the icon again the slider shows again, but it is not aligned under the icon but rather on the very left of the screen next to the gnome menu. Clicking hides it again.

The only way to adjust the brightness via the applet is to use the cursor keys once the slider is displayed.

I'm using ubuntu lucid with the latest updates installed.

Yes, I can confirm this bug, although the weird repositioning in some corner of the screen does not occur in my case. The slider DOES, however, function properly if I first click on the icon, which opens the slider, and then right-click, opening the panel menu, followed by another right click that closes the panel menu again. After this, the slider works as expected and does not disappear if you click on it.

It seems to be a problem with the focus gaining of the slider's window, which is corrected by opening and closing the panel menu over it. It might even be a bug in the window manager, which controls (a part of) the focus. I'm using the metacity window manager, perhaps others that use other window managers such as compiz are not affected by this bug?
