Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

I am using Ubuntu 9.10 with gnome-power-manager 2.28.1. I have "Dim display when idle" turned off for both "On AC Power" and "On Battery Power".

When I turn "Dim display when idle" off the screen should not dim.

Actual Result:
When running on the battery the screen dims after 30 seconds of inactivity.

Now I just had the screen dim on AC power also. However the interval before dimming was much longer.

Thank you for your bug report. Please run "gnome-power-manager --debug 2>&1 | tee gpm.log", let your display dim and attach the resulting file to this bug report.

I ran "gnome-power-manager --debug 2>&1 | tee gpm.log" and the screen dimmed but nothing was added to the log.

That's not a gnome-power-manager issue then. Is gnome-screensaver running?

Actually, my bad. You need to run "gnome-power-manager --verbose 2>&1 | tee gpm.log". That might explain why you saw no output before ;)

Does it dim even without gnome-power-manager running? Your log shows the idle state changing, but it also shows that it isn't dimming the screen on idle (it shows that the backlight is dimmed to 50% due to you being on battery)

It is not dimming when gnome-power-manager is not running. The dimming when going to batter I expect and want it to do that.

This looks like a repeat of: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-power-manager/+bug/392122

apt-get remove gnome-power-manager

stopped it from happening, anyway

Eh, I was wrong. The problem was the screensaver. Sorry, ignore comment number 15.
