Bug Description

Before upgrade to Jaunty the sound up, down and mute keys and brightness up/down combox (Fn+Home, Fn+End) caused a small window to appear. This window showed sound and brightness level.
Recently I upgraded to Jaunty and now I don't see this window. However brightness and sound changes.

How can I get this indicators back?

I can confirm this too. I have two Thinkpads: T40 (upgrade) and T41 (clean installation) and both are not working with jaunty. I noticed that changing value via brightness Gnome applet changes hardware settings, but NOT vice versa. And sound is completely separate: hotkeys are changing physical volume, but doesn't change Ubuntu's volume AND vice versa.

Of course system is up-to-date.

I have the same problem with a Thinkpad T60p (upgrade from intrepid), but only for sound control (brightness control works well). Like Roffik says, hotkeys change physical volume but not the system volume.

Confirm the issue on a Thinkpad t43p. No acpi events are being generated from those keys.

A few days ago, my brightness keys on a Lenovo Thinkpad R61 stopped working.
LCD display is very dark, even on the highest brightness level.

The rest of the Fn-Key combinations still work, like sound, sleep, battery.

Yes, it is. I have a Thinkpad T41 with Lucid, all updates. The brightness applet is not working at all (I can't do it by clicking, but I can use scrolling to move the slider; however, it doesn't change the actual brightness of the screen), but the keyboard shortcut is working fine. The sound buttons work the same way as I wrote before; cite:

"And sound is completely separate: hotkeys are changing physical volume, but doesn't change Ubuntu's volume AND vice versa."

Are there any logs I can upload?

Ok these are two different bugs, so for the second (regarding volume) please open a new bug report.
For the first (regarding brightness) please run in a terminal
apport collect -p gnome-power-manager 366539

Hi!
I don't know if you meant that _I_ should run the command you provided?
(I actually tried running it, but it showed some scary warnings and I canceled it:)
