Shutdown behavior different when using power button

By default pressing the power button on my laptop brings up a menu allowing me to choose between shutdown, logout, suspend, etc. In the power management preferences this can be altered so that my computer shuts down immediately after pressing the power button.

Problem is the shutdown behavior is different between the two methods. For example, when shutdown is selected from the menu, openoffice will ask to save any unsaved docs(and abort the shut down if the cancel button is pressed) and the shutdown has more splash screen. Whereas if ubuntu is set to shut down immediately when the power button is pressed, gnome quits with no questions asked and lines of text are visible during shutdown.

I want to get the nicer shutdown behavior to happen immediately when I press my power button.

I notice this in my Ubuntu-eee(8.04) (And I think I remember this also from my vanilla Hardy before).

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Could you try to reproduce the same with Ubuntu 9.04? Thanks in advance.
