This issue have been reported many times on fench ubuntu.fr forum : http://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?id=210794

On my computer, this only appears when the webcam is connected, but the bugg have been reported on computers without webcam.
On my computer, It becomes normal if I load and then unload the webcam driver ( logiteck quickcam messenger plus ).

I would like to add a comment to what Serge Maneuf said: this issue also occurs for me in Gutsy 7.10, with GNOME and Compiz active. The point is that it's very difficult to know what causes this hang when we want to shutdown the PC as it's difficult to reproduce all the time. It seems erratic.

I upgraded to 8.04 (not an install from scratch, upgraded from over internet), and the issue is still there.

I'll provide the information you mentionned on wiki the web page about GPM.

Regards,
Emmanuel

Some tests on amd64

Delay with 2.6.24-14: yes

Delay with 2.6.22-14: (only emergency console 800x600): yes

Delay with 2.6.22-14 after install NVIDIA-Driver-pkg.sh hardly: NO!

The powermanager does not affect these, but the kernel and maybe video driver does on amd64.

P.S. I' must use 2.6.22 on hardy cause of the hosed network printing.......

ByeBye
Eric

The issue here doesn't seem to be linked to GPM but to my webcam driver.
Reboot is immediate if I use the command : gnome-power-cmd.sh reboot
The long delai is between the command quit ( from the menu system or from the button on the toolbar ) and the pop-up of the menu which allow to select following action ( quit , reboot, change user ... ).
There is no more delai if :
-) I load and unload the webcam driver ( quickcam recompiled for logitech qui kacam messenger ID 046d:08f6 )
-) I disconnect & reconnect the webcam ( which induced the loading of the driver )
Is there a way to track more deeper where the problem is ?

Serge Maneuf (lsmaneuf-orange) wrote :

The issue seems also linked to compiz.
It arrived that the delai disapears when I stop & restart compiz.
But as yngwie wrote, it is erratic.

Serge Maneuf (lsmaneuf-orange) wrote :

The issue seems also to disappear when "Gnome Power Manager" is checked in the session options inside the System / Preferences Menu.
So this bugg looks like a duplication of #138811 #123078 ....
