Bug Description

[SUMMARY]

I've configured power management so that when the laptop is connected to a power source and the lid is closed it SHOULDN'T suspend, yet it does.

This is a very old and very annoying bug present in earlier versions.

[IMPACT]

Imagine you are working in an environment where you are regularly down-/uploading bigger files. You would need to leave the computer running over night for this purpose but cannot with the lid closed.

[REPRODUCTION]

Open Gnome Tweak Tool > Power settings > set to do nothing after lid is closed when connected to AC > close lid > watch it suspend while it shouldn't

Hi Patrik,

Thanks for filing the bug report. Can you try setting your suspend options under Settings > Power and let me know if that works? I don't have my laptop at the moment to reproduce, but will try this tomorrow as well.

Hi Bruce,

I've checked and settings are set to off - not to suspend at all.

I've just tested this with 15.04 with main + staging PPA. System does not suspend if "When plugged in" is set to "Nothing" with or without an external monitor connected (SVGA).

gnome-power-manager:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 3.14.1-1ubuntu1
  Version table:
     3.14.1-1ubuntu1 0
        500 http://za.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ vivid/main amd64 Packages
     3.8.2-1ubuntu3~utopic1 0
        500 http://ppa.launchpad.net/gnome3-team/gnome3-staging/ubuntu/ vivid/main amd64 Packages

But then again, I don't have gnome-power-manager installed. Perhaps it's related to that package? Could you test without that package installed and let me know if it works?

I've tried your workaround Bruce and it seems to be working. I've removed the mentioned package and rebooted, closed the lid twice while on AC and it didn't shut down.

I'm wondering why do we need the package if it perhaps causes trouble? And btw, I did not know it could be related, I only assumed by the name.

I also have to add, that I'm not using any additional PPAs for Gnome3.
