Bug Description
Reporting this for Ubuntu, since I don't know which package controls the small pop-up which appears when you adjust the screen light.
On my IBM ThinkPad R51, it worked perfectly well on Feisty. After upgrading to Gutsy Beta, it's broken.
No matter if you turn the light up or down, the on-screen monitor-thing constantly switches between 0 and +1.
Also, increasing gamma (by using Fn+Home) works fine, but decreasing (Fn+End) instantly reduces gamma to 0, no matter what it was on previously.

The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Hardy Heron. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu.
