Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

I am using a dell Vostro 1500 running Gutsy Tribe 5. The power management correctly adjusts the brightness when I plug in and unplug the power, and the display responds properly when I change the brightness slider in gnome power management. But if I press the function-down hotkey, the brightness drops from 100% (or whatever it is set to in power management) to 30% (the second lowest), then to 0% on the second press. Pressing the up key repeatedly causes the brightness to change between 30% and 0%. Opening the power management preferences app causes the brightness to increase back to 100%. I am attaching lshal output, is anything else needed?

Try typing the following command in a terminal:

xgamma -gamma 0.75

If that doesn't work you need to install xgamma from the repos.

I have posted my own solution here on setting it up:
