Bug Description

Closing the lid does not suspend the laptop despite power settings in System Settings, it does not even start the screensaver.

It's an hp dm1z laptop running 12.10 alpha1. The suspend-on-closing-lid used to work in pre-alpha quantal. Here's some system info:

tsj@linux-laptop:~$ lsb_release -rd

For what it's worth, the laptop does go into suspend when using the menu in the cog-shaped applet in the top panel; however when the lid is opened the computer returns to an unlocked desktop rather than to a password prompt.

Talking to myself here but in case anyone's listening the resume's been fixed by one of the mid-June updates.

Cheers

I would like to add that this bug occurs during each Ubuntu release cycle. This is the third time running for me (at least), starting with 11.10.

Thankfully it has been fixed relatively quickly each release. Hopefully the same happens with 12.10.

Thank you.

Same here with Dell XPS laptop.

Suspend works when selected in the menu though.

If I try to suspend from the menu, my screen goes blank but the laptop does not power down. The only course of action is to force a shutdown by holding the power button down.

Same thing on a Thinkpad W510, menu entry works fine, laptop lid closing does nothing.
