I had my USB drive plugged in. When I unmounted it an unplugged it gnome-panel crashed. I did the same thing earlier today with no crash.

Thanks for your bug report. The crash looks like a memory corruption. Could you try to get a valgrind log for it? (you can follow the instructions from https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Valgrind for that)

When I run valgrind it complains that there is already a session of
gnome-panel running. Is there another way to run the test? If this is
what was expected then I can upload the logs that were gathered.

you can use gnome-session-remove gnome-panel and then run it under valgrind

I have attached the logs generated from running valgrind. I have been unable to recreate the crash though.
