Bug Description
Using Feisty!
Right click on Clock in Gnome panel at the top.
Select preferences
Un-check "show date"
Select "UNIX" from "Clock Type"
After that Gnome shows your panels a few times flickering on the screen, before removing the panels completely.
Since I could not find any work-around or hint on how to repair broken panels, I deleted directories ".gconf*" and ".gnome*" from my home directory. After that I got at least a "fresh" Gnome setup.
