Bug Description

When the desktop effects are enabled, (thus, allowing shadows to appear under the panels) if the panel's background is set on transparent, the shadow that goes with it looks out of place.

Could you please attach a screenshot of this issue? It would be awesome if you could also attach a mockup of what you would like this to look like, but thats not necessary, the screenshot is.

Here's a screenshot, interesting enough, as I tried to edit the preferences to uncheck the autohide, well, the picture speaks for itself, the menu was all messed up. The screenshot menu had the same problems, i had to disable the desktop effects to actually be able to save the screenshot.

I don't think a mockup for a fix is needed, I think the shadow effect should be simply disabled for panels that are transparent.

Just a comment

Things that are completely transparent should leave no shadows (just like in real life)

It would be awesome if the shadow intensity of the panel would change appropriately depending on how transparent/opaque you make the panel. That would certainly be a nice touch.

gnome-panel uses fake transparency, if you turn the opacity down on a window for real the shadow opacity goes down too.
