Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

When using the Ubuntu Classic UI in Natty, Gnome panels cannot be moved with drag-and-drop. This is a problem mainly for users of multiple screens. Holding the "alt" key used to enable repositioning of the panels in Maverick, but this no longer works. No other key combination works either. This occurs both with compiz enabled and without.

Hello,

I found a work around

1. Make a panel on the screen that you CAN make a panel on.
2. Go to gconf-editor -> apps-> panel->toplevels
3. pick the panel you want to move and change the key for "monitor"

Thanks. I am aware of that and similar workarounds, but the issue remains. The more important thing to address is to more consistently and properly handle which screen is primary. There are not easy ways to set this, change it, or remember for the future. I have been testing Gnome 3 and the problem still exists there as well.

KDE's concept of only showing windows in the task bar for the screen that it's on is a big help, but laptop users need more flexibility and a quick way to change from one screen configuration to another. I realize that this is a larger issue than this one bug and bugs in several packages including proprietary drivers don't help us get to a resolution.
