Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

A have a added a few items to System -> Preferences -> Startup Applications. One of these is loading very quickly and on a fresh boot starts up before my panels, so there is no notification area. Its icon appears in the top left corner of the screen and will shortly be covered by the panel. Logging out and logging in again things work fine, as the panel loads much faster with everything in cache.

I've only seen this happen with one of my startup applications (jungledisk-monitor), so this might be an fault there such as not blocking until a notification area is available.

not sure that's a gnome-panel issue but the icon should probably dock itself to the notification area when this one become available

There is no support on such deprecated version; that one has died long time ago.
