Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

1) Ubuntu 9.10 amd64
2) 1:2.28.0-0ubuntu6

3) Expected : When I open the clock panel and try to modify the task list, by clicking on the corresponding "Modify" button, an instance of Evolution should be opened to the task panel of Evolution.

4) Instead, an instance of Evolution is created, but does not show the task panel of Evolution (it rather shows the last view of Evolution)

This is also true for the appointments modify button. I've written a patch which fixes both problems. You can download the gnome-panel package from my ppa (for lucid)

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:goehle/goehle-ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install gnome-panel

Hopefully that should install the package from my ppa. Let me know if it doesnt work.

what about adding the patch there and sending it upstream so it can get reviewed and maybe used rather than staying in an updated version in a ppa most users will not run

Well I wrote it last yesterday and wanted to see if it worked on a machine besides my own and this seemed like a convenient place to find people willing to test it. If it works I'll send it upstream.

I didn't get my previous instructions quite right.... you need some additional packages

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:goehle/goehle-ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install gnome-panel gnome-panel-data libpanel-applet2-0

should do it.

I've tried your ppa, Geoff Goehle, and can confirm it works! Thank you! Hope this gets included officially within Ubuntu 10.04.

Great! Thanks. I've submitted the patch upstream to the gnome devs.

could you give us the GNOME bug url where you submitted the change?

Well, obviously, it is fixed, since Geoff Goehle patch does just that. I thought the next milestone would be to get this fix "released", eg. included and diffused in an official release. But to be fair, and after reviewing the "launchpad guide", I understand that the term "fix commited" means that the code has been accepted and committed by the upstream devs, which in this case I am not sure has happened yet.

Maybe Mr Goehle could provide us with a link to the submitted patch / ticket so that we can track the status of this bug more closely?

Thanks in advance! Feel free to mark this bug as "in progress" if it is more adequate.
