Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Application in the Applications menu always start in gnome-terminal even if the preferred terminal has been changed to anything else in the Preferred Applications screen of GNOME configuration.

This is closely related to bug 501192 which I just posted, but gnome-panel shouldn't prefer the GNOME setting over the x-terminal-emulator as the GNOME option and the x-terminal-emulator link are not automatically bound together.

I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 Netbook remix.

I have independent confirmation and have checked myself that the bug does NOT happen in Ubuntu Hardy. The GNOME Panel in Ubuntu Hardy honors the preferred terminal.

I have tested with a clean virtual machine with a Karmic live CD and the bug still happens so this is definitely related to my configuration.

gnome-panel isn't linked to libeel so this is not the same bug.

Its glib has a list of hardcoded terminal names.
