3 and 4: didn't expect anything to happen really, just booted ubuntu and logged in.
This might be the same as alot of the other reported bugs, but this one had IA_gtk_

uhm, right, brainfart. i did apt-cache policy packagename instead of apt-cache policy gnome-panel which was probably what I should have done.
