Bug Description

I am having problems trying to replace the Ubuntu logo in the Gnome menu, with the usual Gnome foot.

I use the default Clearlooks theme (which uses the default Gnome icon theme, not the Human theme).

In the past it used to suffice to just replace the icon :

/usr/share/icons/hicolor/48x48/apps/distributor-logo.png

and reload the gnome panel. But it doesn't work anymore.
It was then brought to my attention that some of the icons were now cached, and that I needed to do:

"sudo gtk-update-icon-cache /usr/share/icons/hicolor" to rebuild the cache or something
But even after I do that, the Ubuntu logo is still there.

I tried reloading the gnome panel, removing/re-adding the menu applet, logging out/in, restarting the machine altogether, but still no joy.

What puzzles me is that the ubuntu logo in System->About Ubuntu HAS been successfully replaced, though. But not the logo in the panel.

Thanks for the bug report. This particular bug has already been reported into our bug tracking system, but please feel free to report any further bugs you find.

note that ubuntu-artwork and tangerine-icon-theme ship variant of that icon and you probably want to replace those one if you use the default theme rather than the hicolor which is the fallback when the theme doesn't customize it

Changed in gnome-panel:
assignee: nobody → desktop-bugs
status: Unconfirmed → Rejected

After todays update and a reboot, the Gnome foot finally appeared ! Yeah....
Still don't understand what made it work exactly all of a sudden, though...
