Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

After pressing CTRL-ALT-L (lock screen) or Fn+F2 (Which is the Thinkpad shortcut for "lock screen"), My screen goes black, and needs a password to unlock, just as expected. But the backlight stays on, which is both consuming battery and CCFL lifetime.

Is there a way to turn off the backlight, too?

Just tried it, it is still a problem in karmic. I noticed that g-p-m has nothing to do with it (running "gnome-screensaver-command --lock" has the same effect as hitting CTRL-ALT-L).

Changed in gnome-power-manager (Ubuntu):
status: New → Invalid

I'm going to mark it as Triaged and wait for upstream to work on this. Thanks for taking the time to make Ubuntu better! Please report any other issues you may find.

I don't know if the responsibility here has changed since the introduction of Unity, but I am still experiencing this bug using Ubuntu 12.10 on my Macbook Pro. The keyboard backlight and the Apple logo light also stay on, until my screen saver starts.
