Bug Description

I am using a fresh install of Karmic Alpha 5 updated to Sept. 10.

Switching between 2 displays works fine when I use System / Preferences / Display.

However, when I use a command such as

xrandr --output VGA1 --off ; xrandr --output LVDS1 --preferred

the bottom gnome panel will change 'Orientation' to 'Top'. I can always reset 'Orientation' to 'Bottom', but the problem is always repeatable using xrandr.

The problem occurs regardless of whether I switch from LVDS1 to VGA1 or vice versa. I never had this problem in Intrepid.

Some additional testing: If I switch the laptop lcd off and then back on (xrandr --output LVDS1 --off ; xrandr --output LVDS1 --preferred), I get the same results.

I've resolved the problem, at least for my personal use.

If I turn the 2nd monitor on first, and turn the 1st monitor off after, I have no problem:

xrandr --output LVDS1 --preferred ; xrandr --output VGA1 --off

There is still a problem when I turn the 1st monitor off first before turning the 2nd monitor on (meaning both monitors are off for a fraction of a second).
