Bug Description

On the Top panel the placement of the Clock and the netmonitor+volume icons frequently interchange positions between logins.

This is annoying me a lot as it doesnt give me a consistent desktop.

I dont think it is a duplicate of Bug #15442.

15442 refers to the interchange of the whole top and bottom panels when moved from default position.

I am referring to just the position of the time/calendar and netmonitor and other tray icons RELATIVE to each other next to the power button on the Top panel.

I am using Jaunty X64 without any modifications to either the panels or the whole desktop theme or icon sets.

Will attach both the screen shots when i get them.

can you describe in more detail how to trigger this bug? does it happen at login time only? does it happen at every login? do you sometimes change your screen resolution or attach external monitors? do you move around the panels? do you move around items on the panel? do you add/remove items to the panel?

I can't recreate this. As requested by Michael, please provide steps for triggering the bug. Also, does this happen if you create a new user?

@Michael Nagel , @Chris Coulson

I have a default install Ubuntu 9.04 X64 without any user changes to the desktop/icons/themes or anything. I do NOT move the panels around There is a single user on the system. There are no External Monitors.

The only thing that i think is probably relevant is that i have to change the screen resolution EVERY time i login (default 800X600, changed to 1024X768). I am not sure if that causes the problem. I have not seen the change in resolution affecting RELATIVE position of icons, but possible. will check next time i login.

The position does not change during a session and will remain constant and only changes at login. Hope this helps

Just a after thought. Is it possible that a sudden power failure might trigger this.
Also all icons / panels are locked.

i do not think so. sebastien bacher marked this report as duplicate of a bug that *very probably* discussed the same problem you experience. you should have a look there and any further discussion should take place there -- except this indeed is not a duplicate.
