Bug Description
Binary package hint: gnome-panel
Problem: sometimes when I double-click on a file to open it in gedit, there's a timeout of a minute or so before gedit appears. During this time, gnome-panel is completely unresponsive.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Connect to network A (in this case, my home 11g network with dhcp addresses 10.1.1.x) and connect to another computer using Samba. A desktop icon appears for the link.
2. Suspend and move laptop away from network A. Resume the computer near network B (in this case, my work 11N network with dhcp addresses 10.0.0.x) and make the laptop connect to network B. Note that the desktop icon for the network A Samba link remains.
3. Ensure that no instances of gedit are running and then try to open a text file using gedit.
The timeout occurs at this point.
If I manually unmount the Samba share (right-click on the desktop icon and select 'unmount'), there is no timeout in step 3.
I'm currently using Jaunty with a vanilla kernel 2.6.30-rc6 kernel, but this bug happens also with the standard 2.6.28-12 kernel and I believe it also used to happen in Intrepid. Samba is at version 2:3.3.2-1ubuntu3.
