Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Description : Ubuntu 8.04
Release: 8.04
Package: installed: 1:2.22.1.2-0ubuntu3

When I'm adding a new location place on world clock applet and save the location with an "&" character on the name, the text of the name do not appear on the list and just left a blank section were is supposed to be the name, not for sure for other characters. if I edit the name and erase this character, the text reappear as normal.

I can confirm this and will change status.

Quite annoying if you want to change a place name to the name of friends, such as Bill & Bob.

Thanks for your bug report. This bug has been reported to the developers of the software. You can track it and make comments here: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=530620 . btw i'm not sure if that's the idea (change the location name) though, but let's see what the upstream developers said about it, thanks you.

i can confirm this on fedora 9, using GNOME 2.22.3
for a temporary workaround, use
& to include the ampersand in your location name. In your example:
Bill & Bob
will render on the world clock applet correctly.
