I'd like to add though, that the issue can only be replicated in the first process of gnome-panel...

That is, I can replicate it after start up, but if I kill the process

tim@Central:~$ ps -aux | grep gnome-panel

then I cannot replicate the issue.

The process that is restarted is the following
