window list useless in vertical panels

Bug Description

In previous (feisty/edgy) ubuntu versions, a vertical gnome panel at 24 px wide would show (in the window list applet) the window icons; this was enough for me to distinguish them and click on the correct ones. In Gutsy beta, all you see in a vertical panel of this size on the window list buttons are two dots ( .. ) this is total mystery meat- I cannot tell which is what without hovering the mouse over and reading the tooltip.
I understand this is probably an upstream (gnome or gtk) bug, but I do believe there should be a better standard for what happens in vertical panels in gnome.

well, I guess it's similar. Just note that I actually *want* the behavior the other bug is complaining about- it is fine for me to see just the icon in the window list. This is a regression from the behavior of that bug, since now there are only two dots visible.
I'm not complaining- a good spec for vertical behavior/making the text vertical will fix both bugs, just explaining why I filed a different one- I did look at that bug first.
sorry for wasting any time :)
