Bug Description

Bug from Ubuntu 16.04 (Development Branch) amd64:

1、sudo apt-get install gnome-session-flashback

2、logout and goto gnome-session-flashback

3、See there is surely no "Virtualbox.desktop" shown in menus from gnome-panal

4、sudo apt-get install virtualbox-qt

5、However, still no "Virtualbox.desktop" shown in menus (Bug)

6、Only after running " killall gnome-panel && gnome-panel " does the virtualbox icon come out.

This is annoying because people usually cannot find out how to open virtualbox once it is just installed.

Hi, why can't this just be a gnome issue? does it happen with other packages with a desktop file? I don't see how virtualbox can cause this problem at all.

At least please provide a dpkg install log.
thanks

Yes, I think its a bug from gnome, gnome hides xxx.desktop if it link to a non-exist binary.

step of installing deb packages ->

1、dpkg decompresses /usr/share/applications/virtualbox.desktop to system (System found out it links to /usr/bin/Virtualbox but it not exists, so hide it)

2、dpkg decompresses /usr/bin/VirtualBox (till now, the like file appears, but it is late..)

Thus, icon is not shown after installion, but by restarting gnome-panel, it will come out.

affects: virtualbox (Ubuntu) → gnome-panel (Ubuntu)
