Bug Description

I recently upgraded to Trusty 14.04.1 x64 from 12.04.5 x64. After upgrading, Although my system will boot and the desktop is created, the panels do not appear. I had to execute gnome-panel to get the panels to appear. I then added gnome-panel to my Startup Applications, and the panels now appear. This happens with Gnome-Flashback under both Metacity and Compiz.

Additionally, I cannot edit my menus nor do all the menus appear. Sundry, System Tools, Utilities, Web Applications, and Wine show in Main Menu, but do not show in Applications Menu. If I add an item in Main Menu, it is added to Other no matter what menu I am trying to add it to. If I add a menu, it will not appear in Applications. I am attaching my main.log and history.log.

Please attach your ~/.xsession-errors file, it's where gnome-session writes its errors to.

Re the main menu issue, there are known bugs in alacarte package in trusty. You can try installing alacarte from utopic.

I do nat have a ~/.xsessions-errors file. Could the fact that I have added gnome-panel to my Startup Applications have done away with it?

If I install the alacarte from utopic, should I use the .deb file or trusty proposed? Also, if I install, should I remove my existing alacarte first?

I'd hold off a bit before trying any Utopic packages. It takes a while to read all of this ;^)

And I need to go bounce around on a tractor for a while.

New alacarte is here: http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/a/alacarte/alacarte_3.11.91-1_all.deb

It is a python app, so installing new .deb should be completely safe. You don't need to remove the previous version before installing.

The errors file name is ".xsession-errors", it starts with a period so you may need to enable "Show hidden files" in your file chooser before you see it.

Sorry about that. While I do have nautilus configured to display all files, I seem to have stopped looking after the . folders. Since the . files are last, I missed it. In any case, here it is. I also have a .xsessions-errors.old. Do you want that as well?
