Tooltips block further input events to menus

Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Steps to reproduce, on Gutsy Tribe 4:

Hover over the Firefox Panel Icon until a tooltip opens, then try to open the System menu (or any other menu) while the tooltip is still present. It won't work.

Input events to the whole panel seem to be blocked until the tooltip closes again. This makes browsing through menus feel very ugly.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. I don't get it, how can you try to open the System menu with the tooltip present? if you move the mouse out of the firefox icon the tooltip disappear, or your tooltip doesnt?

Thank you for your bug. The tooltip should only be displayed when you are over firefox, does it go over the menu for you? Could you make a screenshot showing the issue?

I just compared the behaviour to how it was in Feisty. Indeed, in Feisty tooltips immediately disappear when you leave the icon that has the tooltip(without Desktop Effects).

With Gutsy, they do not disappear when moving the mouse anywhere, but only after some timeout. During that timeout you cannot click on any controls of the same panel.

A screenshot would only show a virgin (just installed, just booted) Desktop with the Firefox tooltip open.

Not confirming, it takes less than 1 second for the tooltip to go away and I'm not quick enough to go over the menu and click during the delay so I can't try

On my system, it takes anywhere from 1 to 10 seconds for the panel tooltips to go away. This means that the Desktop can be blocked for 10 seconds.

I just checked with the tooltips from within Firefox (e.g. back icon), and they disappear immediately.

Note that I have switched off Desktop Effects, since with Effects enabled the time for tooltips to disappear would be even longer.

Sebastien, can you try this:

Go to System Menu -> Preferences -> Universal Access.
Hover over Assistive Technology Preferences until tooltip appears.
Move away from Menu. How long does it take for the tooltip to disappear?

I would like to confirm this bug.

I'm using Gutsy Tribe 4 with Desktop effects and nvidia restricted drivers.

Basically, the tool tip does not immediately disappear when you move the mouse, and all further input seems blocked.
I say seems blocked, because the input does not actually register until the tool tip disappears.

It takes anywhere from 1 second to 3-4 seconds for the tool tip to disappear.

In the video, I click as fast as possible on top of "sda2" icon and the Terminal icon AFTER the tool tip appears, but clicks do not register until the tool tip disappears.

Check 40 second mark in video for best example.
