Just happened to me too. When I came back to my machine after leaving it locked, I had this crash dialog on the screen. Also, workrave had popped out of the panel into it's little window mode. I don't know if that's related.

fwiw I did not run evolution --force-shutdown. I don't use evolution aside from ocassionally the taskbar calendar.

i close a meeting pidgin window. i also notices that the panel is taking so time to be placed. sometimes i need to open any program to activated.

Had it happen here too, was opening a meeting request in evolution, ie accessing the calendar.

i just upgraded to the new version 2.20.0.1-0ubuntu5 (gutsy) and the panel
does not showed automatically. i have to do clic on its place or open any
app.

but if y remove the panel.d inside .gnome2 the panel is opened in normal
way.

Same issue, evolution locked up, I had to manually kill the exchange backend and did the notifier for good measure. I assume the notifier is what ended up crashing the panel.

This happens to me about 75% of the time when I close evolution (either via File->Exit or hitting the close 'X').
The difference between the link in comment 4 is that I am connecting over the exchange/outlook web access method and not IMAP.

I get the same thing, 90% of the time when I close Evolution it crashes gnome-panel. Seems to happen more consistently when Evo has been running for a long time (so lots of mail notifications). Not using IMAP, just the exchange connector.

I had an 'Adjust Time&Date' open in one Workspace and opened date->Preferences in another, while the first window was updating and installing NTP (almost finished I think), I pressed 'Time settings' in the other window... then, bang
 (could not re-create)
