The screen settings in gnome are out of sync with xorg.conf

Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

The Gnome settings for the resolution and the refresh rate of the screen differs from the xorg.conf. The OSD menu of my CRT monitor says 1280x1024@85Hz, but the gnome settings says 1280x1024@50Hz.
