Bug Description

if you make the panel transparent, the clock becomes not viewable (if the
background is dark). though if one mouses over it it goes opaque. this is a
general problem w/ applet text.

I'll talk with an upstream about this but probably a WONTFIX. You have several
options here:
- don't set the panel to 100% transparent
- don't put the clock in a dark area
- choose a background adapted to your panel config

Not sure of what could be done on the panel side ...

hum, perhaps an option to change the font color for the whole panel could work yes.

That's a general panel issue. I've opened a bug upstream about it:

Perhaps the same sort of text that is used for icons on the desktop used for the clock and text in gnome-panel?

There is a work around in the upstream bug report. You can put the following into your gtkrc to change the text colour on the clock:

style "panel-clock"
{
  fg[NORMAL] = "#FFFFFF"
}

Related is bug 88263.

It also affects me... The same thing on 3 different computers with Ubuntu 10.10... And it is very ugly :/

The weird is that the clock applet and the indicator applet are from default at the panel... And they do not become transparent..
