Thanks for your bug report. The crash looks like a memory corruption. Could you try to get a valgrind log for it (you can follow the instructions from https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Valgrind for that)?

ok a little update, it doesnt crash every time , only when certain packages are updated a certain way, I have yet to find out which ones and how. I prepared my system for debugging however in order to use valgrind I have to run an instance of the program using valgrind. Unfortunately the program in this case is gnome-panel and it only allows one instance. killing gnome-panel automatically restarts it and I have no idea how to permanantly kill it so that I can run an instance of gnome-panel under valgrind.

duplicate of bug #85776, you can use gnome-session-remove gnome-panel to stop it and run it under valgrind then
