Uh... aren't we suppossed to test these programs?

"gpk-update-icon: When PackageKit is installed, it starts the session icon automatically when you log in. This application displays an icon in the notification area of your panel when software updates are available, and is responsible for showing notifications about PackageKit operations and events."
So it is not working on wayland. At least it is not doing what it says it will do. It's a serious bug , also that it is trying to call another program "pk-update-icon" and should be considered a security risk.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers of the software by following the instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

gpk-update-icon was removed 6 years ago. Please ask GNOME to remove that paragraph from the help for this app.

It's not trying to call another program. Ubuntu has a tool that tries to suggest tools when you type a non-existent command from the command line.
