Bug Description

Recently upgraded from 11.10 to 12.04B1. I have no "Online Account..." option in the UI. Previously it was an option in the User Indicator. Though I was unable to find it in Settings or Searching Unity, I was able to access it through "Empathy" using the "Edit Connection Parameters..." for my Google chat account that was previously setup via GOA.

It's the same in the german version - missing UI elements in the system settings for online accounts.

This bug affects me too. Fortunately I also have the Gnome Shell session installed, so by logging out of Unity and into Gnome Shell I can get access to the Online Accounts GUI there. But it would be much more preferable if this bug was fixed in Unity seeing as 12.04 is a LTS release.

It's great to know that Gnome Documents is available in Precise (I run it in Virtualbox since Beta 1) and hopefully I will be able to sync my documents with Google Docs. Unfortunately, there's no Online Accounts icon in the Control Centre (but "gnome-control-center online-accounts" works).

I'm also seeing this in 12.04 - it was there for a newly created user but when I migrated my old user data it disappeared.

I fixed this bug in my machine just editing the /usr/share/applications/gnome-online-accounts-panel.desktop file adding Unity in the OnlyShowIn property. It was configured only with GNOME, see the configuration before and after bellow:

Before
OnlyShowIn=GNOME;

After
OnlyShowIn=GNOME;Unity;

This resolved the issue for myself; thanks. I suspect perhaps it was introduced sometime after 12.04B1 (when I upgraded), if it is not present in the final release.

I think this is an issue of mcp-account-manager-uoa (part of empathy) which I guess is intended to replace the GOA with UOA.

Still a problem in Quantal, I don' t know if it's intended and the service is considered not stable enough.

I have 12.04.1 LTS (64), and I just realised that this affected me too.
Updating /usr/share/applications/gnome-online-accounts-panel.desktop fixed this as per Antonio's comment.

Before
OnlyShowIn=GNOME;

After
OnlyShowIn=GNOME;Unity;

This took immediate effect. Log out was not required.

Same for me, using Ubuntu Precise 12.04.

Can open it with “gnome-control-center online-accounts” from a console (although there are two warning message, see below), but that's not clean to have to open a console to open it. I came to that issue while learning more about Ubuntu WebApps.

Additionally, opening the missing control panel from a console, I get these two messages:

    ** (gnome-control-center:10977): WARNING **: Could not find settings panel "online-accounts"

    ** (gnome-control-center:10977): WARNING **: Could not load setting panel "online-accounts": Unknown error

I've just upgraded a 12.04 to 12.10 and i've got the same problem:

** (gnome-control-center:5632): WARNING **: Could not find settings panel "online-accounts"

** (gnome-control-center:5632): WARNING **: Could not load setting panel "online-accounts": Unknown error

When i start from command prompt it seems that open an older version [see attachment 1.jpg], and if i add accounts here i cannot access them from dashboard or with IM.

If i start from GUI (systems settings --> online accounts) when i press the "+" button to add a new account it simply doesn't work without any errors.

I'm also affected by this, on Mint 14 Nadia. I installed Empathy and after was able to open online accounts and add a few accounts and everything was working, then I rebooted and online accounts was missing from system settings and gnome-online-accounts-panel.desktop isn't even in /usr/share/applications. I'm assuming it was there before I rebooted when the panel was available. It still shows as installed in Synaptic. I just reinstalled it so I'll see what happens when I relog.

I'm experiencing this issue as well, recently upgraded to the Raring Ringtail development branch.

gnome-online-accounts, libgoa-1.0-0, libgoa-1.0-common are all showing as version 3.6.2-1.

gnome-control-center and gnome-control-center-data are at version 1:3.6.3-1

I tried installing Empathy to see if I could get access to edit the accounts that way but the Account Settings button doesn't appear to work there either.

Attempting to launch GNOME Control Center directly into the Online Accounts panel from a terminal or one of the virtual consoles results in an error message stating the settings panel could not be found (as already mentioned verbose by others in this comment thread).

Erp, somehow I had a different version of gnome-control-center and gnome-control-center-data installed than the versions in Raring. Installing the versions from Raring restored the missing Online Accounts panel.

This is happening to me on 12.04. It was installed as 12.04, and I know Online Accounts was visible, so it's changed during a package update some time in the last few months.
