Bug Description

Freshly installed Ubuntu 24.04, unable to add either Google or Microsoft Personal accounts in Settings|Online Accounts. Clicking on the account type produces a pop-up with a single 'Sign in...' button, and clicking on this button just closes the pop-up for both Google and MS accounts.

I was able to add IMAP/SMTP, NextCloud, and WebDAV accounts (although WebDAV seems unusable, will file a separate report) normally.

Also, I was able to add any type of account in Pop_OS 22.04 without any problem.

Hi Jeremy,
Thank you for your help. It has been a while that I filed a bug. I was not aware that I can automatically submit the report. I think, now it has been submitted.

One point that I need to add is that I already tried setting up Google accounts on a fresh 24.04 install just after it was released. At that time, the problem was that I could only add exactly one Google account and no more. This is why I was using Pop_OS until now. Therefore, it might happen that the order of adding accounts is important. I added some IMAP/SMTP accounts first, then a WebDAV account, and then tried adding Google and MS accounts, without success.

By the way, WebDAV account works, but I had to fiddle with the server address a few times before it was Ok. The problem is that if there is a problem (with WebDAV), I do not see any error message (for example, that the address is wrong). GOA happily reports the account as added even if it cannot access the server.

Thank you again,
Serge.

Another addition to this report. It looks like something got out of whack inside GOA, because this morning I saw in the Settings exclamation marks against all but one of my accounts and when clicking on them, there was a message asking to sign in in order to reconnect. Also no mail was received and Evolution complained that the accounts 'do not support prompt for credentials'.

I restarted the system, which had been running for about 3 days by then, and after that, I was able to use all the accounts again and also to add a Google account and a MS Personal account.

So, it seems that there was a malfunction inside GOA during the last couple of days that gradually got worse and at the end I was not able to access even the accounts I already had been using.

I will see how things go and add any other tips to this record,

Yes, the extra system information has been added to the report.

The best written bug reports focus on a specific thing that isn't working, ideally with specific steps someone else can take to reproduce the problem.

I am working on doing an update of gnome-online-accounts. This may take weeks to be available as an update for Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. The update is being tracked at https://launchpad.net/bugs/2072782 The update may fix some of your issues.
