Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-mount

Since upgrading to 8.10 (Intrepid), every time I eject my iPod I'm presented with the error message in the attached image. However, shortly after the error message both volumes are properly unmounted.

Here is the iPod's partition table.

Note: sector size is 2048 (not 512)

Disk /dev/sdb: 8120 MB, 8120172544 bytes
250 heads, 62 sectors/track, 255 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 15500 * 2048 = 31744000 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x00000000

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sdb1 1 3 92876 0 Empty
/dev/sdb2 4 215 6572000 b W95 FAT32
/dev/sdb3 216 255 1240000 83 Linux

I have exactly the same behaviour here (as well after updating to 8.10). No partitions on the IPod.
Alert me if you need more info...

thank you for your bug report, how do you eject the ipod? using nautilus? the command line? calling eject directly?

Changed in gnome-mount:
importance: Undecided → Low
status: New → Incomplete

Tested from both Nautilus and Rhythmbox. The results are the same. The title of the error message is slightly different, but the error message itself is the same either way.

The screenshot attached is from a Nautilus eject. When ejecting from Rhythmbox, the title is simply: "Unable to eject".

Calling eject directly does not result in the please wait, notification or the timeout error.

Using 8.04 I managed my iPod using amarok. I had the eject command tweaked to allow non-root user. At 8.10 this does not work anymore, amarok fails to eject. So I switch to my desktop and right-click the icon. This works, though results in error message above.

do you get the issue if you use gnome-eject -v -b -d <device>?

Not sure how, when, or why... but the problem seems to have gone away. I'm running fully updated 8.10

Trying to eject my iPod Shuffle (1st gen.) via Gnome's Eject button.

Error window 1 comes up immediately. After a while, the second error windows pops up. Seems that the iPod is ejected though.
