Bug Description
This problem began immediately after I upgraded from Maverick to Natty (11.04). I tried using an old kernel and it did not help.
Installed version of gnome-media is 2.32.0-0ubuntu7.
When I plug my USB headset in, it shows up in gnome-volume-
The available output profiles for the selected device are:
1. Digital Stereo (IEC958) Output
2. Analog Stereo Output
If I choose option 1, the output volume control affects the volume of the device (but see below).
If I choose option 2, the output volume control has no effect.
HOWEVER, there is another variable here, an extra volume control that I can only access in alsamixer for the USB device, which is called "Speaker". This volume control is unrelated to any of the gnome-volume-
The problem is all the more annoying because each time I plug the USB device in, the "alsamixer" volume control resets to 0, meaning I have to go into alsamixer each time I plug the device in in order to hear anything.
Relevant lsusb and amixer output attached.
