gnome-volume-control can't change from digital to analog output

Binary package hint: gnome-media
The new gnome-volume-control in Karmic can't change from digital to analog output, to get digital output I need to enable the IEC958 Output switch in gnome-alsamixer. The ability to "change" profile under the hardware section of gnome-volume-control should be able to enable the switch, now it's confusing because changing the settings doesn't do anything.

I also have this problem and it's somewhat worse for me, because I need to use Digital and Analog output. Seems I have to choose between having my digital surround sound or headphones... Selecting Analog Output, headphones work, but obviously Digital Surround Sound doesn't... Selecting Digital Output, surround sound works, but headphones don't...
