Bug Description

alsa-base 1.0.18

This bug affects everyone I have spoken to running Jaunty.

Even though they are not muted, gnome-volume-control show every capture level as muted?

If you unmute them, close gnome-volume-control, then open gnome-volume-control, they are muted once again. This has no effect to the capture volume, but confusing users.

And what does clicking on the speaker do? Isn't that supposed to be muted otherwise it acts as a throughput device and you can hear yourself through the speakers? Is the audio interface for capture device any better for others?
