Binary package hint: gnome-lirc-properties

Gnome-lirc-properties won't recognize a serial receiver if connected to the system and shown by hal.

$ hal-device |grep lirc

To partially resolve this issue, I have added the following lines to /usr/share/gnome-lirc-properties/receivers.conf:

[Generic IR Receiver]
kernel-module = lirc_serial
device-nodes = /dev/lirc0
