Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-games

computer player seems to halt play after only the seventh move (uses up almost all it's remaining time (1-hour) even though next move seems obvious, also, AI engine makes silly moves even with long processing time on modern PC (running Ubuntu 9.04 64-bit, dual-core Pentium, 2GB RAM, 1.6GHz processor).

Good luck!

Sure...I set the time at one hour, computer player difficulty at hard, then started a new game from the menu bar...ran into the same problem on a different Ubuntu 9.04 machine as well (thirty-minute move time, at normal difficulty), but that was a 32-bit Ubuntu version on a five-year-old Dell Dimension 3000. Both Ubuntu machines were newly upgraded with no modifications other than running the Update Manager as is normal. So, there have been no arcane system tweaks on either system that could mess up the chess program. Also, I was running the chess program in 2-D graphics mode. Good luck. If there are any more questions, please let me know!

Thanks!
