gnometris goes out of control half way through a game, with pieces speeding up, and not responding to commands. I hear the extra pull on the system during this time.

Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-games

not even half way through a game, and the pieces speed up and don't respond to commands quickly enough to keep the game from running out. I can hear the fans kicking in during this time and the machine is pulling hard. Then it will return to normal speed and power, but too late to return to normal gameplay.

I have a 3 gig pentium 4, and 1.5 gig of ram. I don't have trouble with any outer programs, including cad, photoshop , or preimere (while dual booting xp).

I've run many different versions of linux on this machine, and I fail to understand why this simple game is giving trouble.

This is similar to a previous bug, except in this bug the pieces speed up.

In Gutsy, I just go to Applications/Games/Gnometris select game/new and start playing. when the board gets between 1/3 & 1/2 way full of pieces, the trouble starts and the game quickly goes out of control. My processor is really pulling hard by that point.

Other programs running are firefox, avant window navigator, & compiz is enabled. BUT even with compiz off awn turned off and no other apps running, I'll have the same problem.

I didn't have this problem on previous versions of Ubuntu. It may be Gutsy related. Since this is a laptop, I'm not trying Hardy until it's stable.

Thank you for your efforts. I don't know anything else to tell you.

Thanks again.

Tony

same problem here it seems not only not responsible but i have the fell that the controls gets even reversed (maybe because of the extremely high lag?) anyway it's unplayable this way... i don't have anything strange just deluge,firefox3,some terminals, gedit and rythmbox. one thing which might be of interest is that before opening rythmbox everything was working fine, plus this computer uses the on demand cpu governor and it has a T7300+NVIDIA 8600M GT

I can also confirm this bug on my Dell Optiplex GX270 desktop running intel gfx. Seems like after I hold down the "down" arrow key is when the controls start going haywire. Massive lag and unresponsiveness. I can hear the fans speeding up in my system indicating the cpu is under heavy load. Same problem with/without Compiz. When Compiz is enabled, the screen will fade black and white while the game is playing. Hardy install fully updated as of 4-5-08 8:15pm
