gnome-font-viewer doesn't pop up if started from menu

Fresh install LinuxMint18 - Cinnamon version (Language = dutch)

After installation gnome-font-viewer works if selected from the menu. After applying all updates, gnome-font-viewer doesn't pop up any longer if started from the menu. Starting gnome-font-viewer from the terminal is ok.

Secondary effect : Can't install fonts using Nemo. Normally clicking on a font-file, starts installing the font

Work around : Remove entry DBusActivatable=true in file /usr/share/applications/org.gnome.font-viewer.desktop

I'm also experiencing this problem. Running Cinnamon 3.0.7.

I have the same problem. When starting Linux Mint as Live System from CD (Installation CD) font-viewer works without problems. After installation it does not work. When trying to start up the application the mouse cursor shows activity for about 30sec and than nothing. The application does not start. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall the application, but it does not help, no change. Also I can not implement the workaround mentioned by Bernard Decock because I do not have the file /usr/share/applications/org.gnome.font-viewer.desktop.

Bernard's work-around above works just fine.

You can edit the desktop file this way:

sudo nano /usr/share/applications/org.gnome.font-viewer.desktop

and comment out the relevant line.

Alternatively, have a look in ~/.local/share/applications/org.gnome.font-viewer.desktop (if it exists on your system).
