Bug Description

In a default Ubuntu 14.04 installation, OTF and WOFF files are not associated with gnome-font-viewer, even thou gnome-font-viewers is perfectly capable of showing these files.

By default...
* OTF files are shown with a generic document icon and are associated with "LibreOffice Math" (why?);
* WOFF files are shown with a font icon but are associated with no programs.

I have added two example files that show this problem in Nautilus as configured by Ubuntu 14.04.

For the records, both files are licensed under the SIL licence.

I was wrong, both files are licensed under the Apache 2.0 licence http://www.fontsquirrel.com/fonts/open-sans

the issue with the woff one is that gnome-font-viewer doesn't list "application/font-woff" as a supported mimetype, the issue with the other one is that it's detected as a libreoffice document "application/vnd.oasis.opendocument.formula-template"

Why is nautilus detecting the OFT as a LibreOffice document?

file(1) can "correctly" detect it as "TrueType font data"

    $ file sans.otf
    sans.otf: TrueType font data
    $ file -i sans.otf
    sans.otf: application/x-font-ttf; charset=binary

nautilus is using the shared-mime-info database

they use

" <magic priority="50">
      <match type="string" value="OTTO" offset="0"/>
    </magic>"

it means they expect fonts to start with OTTO, that doesn't seem the case of that one...

the shared-mime-info issue should be reported upstream on https://bugs.freedesktop.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=shared-mime-info

I reported the OTF bug. It can be found at https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=80276

So now this bug report is only about gnome-font-viewer not advertising its support for WOFF files.

summary: - OTF and WOFF formats not associated with gnome-font-viewer

Thanks, do you think you could report the other issue on https://bugzilla.gnome.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=gnome-font-viewer as well?

.woff Font Files can be opened by the default Ubuntu Font Viewer (by right click->open with Other Application in Nautilus), but they are still not associated to it in Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial.
